Opposition Unity is Crucial for 2024 Elections

Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor has predicted that the 2024 general elections will be “exciting.” He stated that if the Opposition rallies around one candidate in each constituency to take on the BJP, the ruling party will face a “very tough time.”

In an interview with news agency PTI, Tharoor said that replicating the success of 2019, when the BJP swept multiple states, will not be easy.

Tharoor emphasized that the Congress, being the only party other than the BJP with a national presence, must be considered in any calculations for an Opposition alliance. He stressed the importance of Opposition unity, whether through pre-poll alliances or strategic seat allocation.

Tharoor argued that significant changes have occurred in the country since 2019, citing the example of Bihar where the BJP’s former ally has joined the Opposition.

He expressed confidence that the upcoming elections will be exciting, and that the recent AICC presidential elections and Bharat Jodo Yatra have revitalized the Congress party and strengthened its prospects for 2024. Tharoor highlighted the positive impact of the Yatra on the party’s image and the morale of its workers.
