Estimated read time 1 min read

The armies of India and Kazakhstan have commenced a two-week joint exercise in Meghalaya, as confirmed by a senior defense officer. The sixth edition of “Kazind-22” is designed to enhance defense cooperation and strengthen bilateral relations between the two nations. The exercise, which began in Umroi, located 25 km from Shillong, will run until December 28.

During the joint exercise, the two armies will engage in training, planning, and executing combined tactical drills to address potential threats encountered during UN peacekeeping operations, as stated by the Army officer. The annual training exercise, initially known as “Exercise Prabal Dostyk” in 2016, was later upgraded to a company-level exercise and renamed “Exercise Kazind” in 2018.

Kazakhstan soldiers from the South-based Regional Command will participate in the exercise alongside the 11 Gorkha Rifles representing the Indian Army. The exercise will involve combat games, joint tactical planning, and drills to enhance military relations, exchange best practices, and improve coordination in counter-terrorist operations in semi-urban or jungle environments under a UN peace enforcement mandate.
