Green Tourism India Conclave 2023 – Shaping the Future of Responsible Tourism in Northeast

A day-long green tourism conclave is scheduled to take place on October 19 in Shillong, aiming to promote responsible tourism initiatives in Northeast India. Organized by Online Media Services in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, the Green Tourism India Conclave 2023 seeks to stimulate discussions, spark innovative ideas, and set the agenda for the future of tourism in the region. Meghalaya Tourism will be the presenting partner for the event.

Aligned with the ‘Travel for LiFE’ program launched by the Ministry of Tourism as part of Mission LiFE, the conclave aims to drive significant behavioral change among tourists and tourism businesses to enhance environmental protection and climate action.

Recognized for its stunning natural beauty and ecological diversity, the Northeast necessitates a sustainable form of tourism that respects the environment and local communities. The conclave will bring together key stakeholders from the government and private sectors, including tour operators, hoteliers, community tourism leaders, practitioners, and experts. Participants will include individuals and organizations from the Northeast and beyond with expertise in the region.

The event will feature a performance by Da Thymmei, a local cultural group from Meghalaya, as well as a case study presentation on ‘Tourism in Meghalaya: Challenges and Opportunities’ by Gerald Samuel Duia, General Secretary of the Tour Operators Association of Meghalaya.
