Strengthening India-Israel Defence Cooperation: A Vision for the Future

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh of India met with Israeli Defence Minister Benjamin Gantz in Delhi on Thursday to discuss enhancing defence cooperation. They agreed on the India-Israel Vision on Defence Cooperation to strengthen their partnership. The ministers also exchanged a Letter of Intent on futuristic defence technologies.

Gantz, on his first official visit to India, is set to meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, and other government officials. They discussed various bilateral, regional, and defence industrial cooperation issues, including increasing military activities and focusing on Research and Development in future technologies and defence co-production.

Singh and Gantz acknowledged shared security challenges and strategic interests, committing to enhancing cooperation across all forums. Gantz’s visit aims to bolster defence ties, a significant aspect of the bilateral relationship.

Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to deepening defence cooperation, outlining a joint vision for future collaboration in a declaration. They discussed strategic global challenges, military and defence industrial cooperation, and a cooperation agreement between DRDO and Israel’s Directorate for Defense RD.

The ministers intend to further develop defence cooperation leveraging Israel’s technological expertise and India’s production capabilities. They also discussed government-to-government partnerships, military training, and technological cooperation, particularly in UAVs and defensive capabilities.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the official diplomatic relations between India and Israel.
