The Jharkhand High Court took suo motu cognizance of a case where a woman was set on fire by a man for rejecting his advances. The court requested the state Chief Secretary and DGP to be present at the next hearing, and also asked the police to provide security to the woman’s family.

State Health Minister Banna Gupta visited the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) hospital in Ranchi to gather information about a woman from Chatra district who was a victim of an acid attack. This move was seen as an effort to avoid further controversy after criticism of the state government’s handling of a similar case in Dumka.

Chief Minister quickly ordered the airlifting of the acid attack victim for better treatment. The BJP had previously suggested that the state government could have saved the victim if they had acted sooner.

The girl was set on fire by Shahrukh Hussain on August 23 and was initially taken to Dumka district hospital before being transferred to RIMS, where she later passed away. There was discrepancy in the reported percentage of burn injuries she suffered, with the hospital stating 90% and the PRO citing 45%.

Dumka district officials announced that BJP leaders would meet with the victim’s family. The Chief Minister’s Office confirmed the victim’s airlifting to Delhi for treatment and provided financial assistance to the family.

The government sources mentioned that the Chief Minister wants to avoid any further controversies regarding treatment issues while facing criticism from the opposition. The BJP criticized the Deputy SP of Dumka and questioned his credibility in handling the case. The Superintendent of Police clarified that the Deputy SP was not removed from the case and that he himself is monitoring the situation.
