Central Severe Weather Alert: Heavy Rainfall Forecast in Northeast India, Decrease in Northwest, Unseasonal Showers in Western India

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall on Tuesday and Wednesday at isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, and Uttarakhand.

In contrast, Northwest India is expected to experience a decrease in rainfall over the next two days, followed by a fresh spell of rain starting on Thursday.

Many areas woke up to unseasonal showers on Tuesday. The city is likely to continue experiencing light to moderate rain, accompanied by gusty winds reaching 30-40 kmph and lightning, in isolated places in the districts of Thane and Raigad.

10 mm of rainfall was recorded in 24 hours ending at 8:30 am on Tuesday in . This is the highest amount of rainfall in March in three years, according to the IMD.

Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) are also expected in Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, and East Uttar Pradesh.

Maximum temperatures recorded until the morning of Tuesday, March 21, were notably below normal (-5.1°C or less) in most places in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, East Rajasthan, Madhya Maharashtra, Bihar, Jharkhand, Haryana, Delhi, West Bengal, and Sikkim. The highest maximum temperature of 37.2°C was reported in Kerala’s Palakkad yesterday.

Minimum temperatures were above normal (1.6°C to 3.0°C) in many places in Punjab and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and in a few places in Bihar, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, and Muzaffarabad. They were significantly below normal (-5.1°C or less) in a few places in Vidarbha, and in isolated places in Odisha and North Interior Karnataka. The lowest minimum temperature of 12.1°C was reported in Madhya Pradesh at Malanjkhand yesterday.
