Union Food Minister Piyush Goyal delivered a strong message to officials of the Food Corporation of India (FCI) on its 59th Foundation Day, hinting at the recent CBI raids. He emphasized that strict action will be taken against any individual or institution involved in corruption.

Goyal urged senior officials to not spare anyone engaged in corrupt practices. He stressed the responsibility of all to take strict action against corruption.

The minister’s remarks hold significance in light of the recent CBI crackdown on alleged corruption in the FCI. This includes arrests and the recovery of large sums of money as part of the investigation into a “corrupt syndicate” involving FCI officials, rice mill owners, and grain merchants.

Goyal described the recent events as a “wake-up call” and emphasized the need for a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption within the FCI. He highlighted the urgency of transforming the FCI to continue supporting the poor and farmers, instructing the Food Secretary to monitor progress and take strict action against non-cooperation or delays.

Goyal also called for the institutionalization of a mechanism to reward whistle-blowers and encouraged all FCI employees to report any incidents of corruption. The event was attended by other officials including Minister of State Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti and FCI Chairman and Managing Director Ashok K Meena.
