No Money for Terror Conference: Uniting Against Terrorist Financing

The Director General of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) stated on Thursday that social media platforms are being utilized to raise funds for terrorist activities, and this issue will be addressed at an international ministerial conference beginning Friday in New Delhi.

The No Money for Terror (NMFT) conference, organized by the Ministry of Home Affairs and inaugurated by Prime Minister , will be attended by Union Home Minister and representatives from over 70 countries.

NIA DG Dinkar Gupta emphasized at a press conference on Thursday that social media platforms are being used for financing terrorism, including crowdfunding. He stressed the importance of discussing this issue, as these platforms are being used to raise funds for terror-related activities.

Gupta noted that Pakistan and Afghanistan are not participating in the conference, and China has yet to confirm its attendance.

Secretary (West) of the Ministry of External Affairs, Sanjay Verma, confirmed that China has been invited to the conference, but did not comment on the involvement of Pakistan and Afghanistan.

The NMFT was established in 2018 as an initiative of the French government, and is the third edition of the conference. The event will bring together 73 countries and 15 multilateral international organizations to address issues related to terrorist financing.

The NIA DG stated that the two-day conference will cover topics such as global trends in terrorism and terrorist financing, emerging technologies and terrorist financing, the use of formal and informal channels of funds for terrorism, and international cooperation to address challenges in combating terrorist financing.

Gupta emphasized the importance of addressing the topic of terror financing in India, and highlighted the involvement of senior ministers, including Home Minister Amit Shah and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, in chairing the conference sessions.
