Reacting to a news report about the Culture Ministry’s plan to study “racial purity”, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi criticized the Narendra Modi government on Tuesday, emphasizing the need for job security and economic prosperity in India.

Referencing a report by The New Indian Express titled “Culture Ministry to Study Racial Purity of Indians”, Rahul took to Twitter to express his concerns, stating that a country studying ‘racial purity’ in its culture ministry has historically had negative consequences. He reiterated that India’s focus should be on job security and economic prosperity, rather than racial purity, addressing the Prime Minister directly.

The news report mentioned that the Ministry of Culture is in the process of procuring DNA profiling kits and advanced machines to investigate the genetic history and “trace the purity of races in India”.

The Ministry of Culture’s responsibilities include the preservation and promotion of Indian art and culture.

Gandhi’s comments were made amidst the ongoing Aryan-Dravidian debate in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, where Congress and BJP leaders are engaging in discussions about racial identity.

India is seeking job security and economic prosperity, not “racial purity”, Prime Minister.

Recently, during a speech commemorating Jawaharlal Nehru’s death anniversary, Gandhi questioned the origins of the RSS in India and whether it aligns with Aryan or Dravidian beliefs.

The Congress party has positioned itself as aligned with Dravidian culture and values, in contrast to the “Aryan aggression of the BJP”.
