The Income Tax Department initiated searches at approximately 40 locations associated with DMK’s Arakkonam MP S Jagathrakshakan on Thursday. These locations include his residence in Chennai’s upscale Adyar area, as well as his offices in T Nagar and Velachery. Searches were also conducted at the homes of the former Union minister’s relatives, a medical college in Poonamallee, another near Puducherry, a prominent hotel in T Nagar, and a business establishment in Nungambakkam.

Jagathrakshakan, one of Tamil Nadu’s wealthiest politicians, has businesses in the health, education, and hospitality sectors. The searches also targeted Sree Balaji Dental College and Hospital in Pallikaranai and Saveetha University in Kuthambakkam. The operation involved heavy security with over 150 armed reserve personnel deployed at different locations.

In Puducherry, the Sri Lakshmi Narayana Institute of Medical Sciences in Agaram, near Ousteri Lake, was searched by a 12-member team from the I-T department. The team arrived at the institute around 8:30 am and conducted searches in the administrative blocks, while verifying hospital staff and students.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin, the president of the DMK, criticized the BJP-led Union government for engaging in “vindictive politics.” He condemned the arrest of AAP MP Sanjay Singh and the raid on DMK MP Jagathrakshakan’s home as examples of misusing independent investigating agencies for political purposes against INDIA bloc leaders, calling it an assault on democracy.

Stalin’s statement also highlighted the Supreme Court’s recent warning to the ED to be transparent and fair. He urged the BJP to focus on addressing real issues instead of engaging in a witch-hunt against opposition parties.
