Tragic Deaths Linked to Food Poisoning – Take Action Now to Ensure Food Safety!

A 24-year-old man from Kochi, Kerala died from food poisoning after consuming shawarma from a local hotel. Rahul D Nair had been fighting for his life since Saturday when he was hospitalized with symptoms of food poisoning. The police have registered a case against the owner of Le Hayat restaurant, which delivered the shawarma to Rahul, who worked at the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Kochi on October 18. The next day, he developed symptoms of food poisoning, leading to multiple organ failure. Samples have been sent for examination to determine if shawarma was the cause of the food poisoning, as confirmed by the hospital where he was treated. Earlier in the year, a nurse from Government Medical College Hospital in Kottayam died from food poisoning after consuming al-faham at a restaurant. In May 2022, there were suspected cases of food poisoning in the Kasaragod district after consuming shawarma from an eatery.
