Center India Covid-19 Update: Active Cases Drop Below 30,000, Recovery Rate at 98.73%

India reported 2,528 new Covid-19 cases in a day, bringing the total number of infections to 4,30,04,005. The active cases dropped below 30,000 for the first time in around 685 days, as per the Union Health Ministry on Friday.

The death toll from the disease has reached 5,16,281, with 149 new fatalities recorded. The active cases now stand at 29,181, accounting for 0.07% of the total infections, while the national recovery rate has improved to 98.73%, the health ministry reported.

A decrease of 1,618 cases in active Covid-19 caseload was noted in a 24-hour period. The ministry also highlighted a decline in weekly and daily positivity rates, both recorded at 0.40%.

In the last 24 hours, India conducted a total of 6,33,867 Covid-19 tests, bringing the cumulative number of tests to over 78.18 crore. The number of recoveries has risen to 4,24,58,543, with a case fatality rate of 1.20%, according to the data.

Over 180.97 crore doses have been administered under the nationwide Covid-19 vaccination drive. India reached the milestone of one crore cases on December 19, 2020, two crore cases on May 4, 2021, and three crore on June 23.

The 149 new fatalities include 130 from Kerala. Maharashtra has reported the highest number of deaths at 1,43,762, followed by Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal.

The health ministry emphasized that over 70% of deaths were due to co-morbidities. The ministry is reconciling figures with the Indian Council of Medical Research, and state-wise distribution is subject to further verification.
